I don't like the pub landlord character. I fear that too many people take him at face value and miss the irony and the piss take of it. Too many like him because they agree with him and don't realise that they themselves are the butt of the joke. It's too nuanced for the general populous. Al Murray tried to retire the character but can't get any gigs doing anything else. It's sad really. I feel sorry for him.
