Building a new rig

Postby CrazyDutchF on Tue Jul 13, 2010 4:57 am

So lately I've been thinking about building a brand new, high performance gaming rig. My current pc's alright, but it's got some temperature issues and I've got the sneaking suspicion my motherboard/cpu's gonna give out in a month or two. It gives me the perfect excuse to  and :pc: a bit!

Now while I know how to install a PSU, a motherboard and all that stuff I've got little to no knowledge on decent gaming cases. Heck, I had to use a specialised hand metal sheet cutter to make room for my graphics card in this case; I'd prefer avoiding a repeat. That's where you come in :toast: Some of you have done extensive research on cases and the like.

I'd prefer not spending a fortune, but the main issue is room, temperature control and accessibility. It doesn't even have to look sexy :twothumbs:

I've got my eye on the Corsair 800/700D, seems like a niiiiiice case. Any thoughts/alternatives?

I'm going to be using my current pc as a backup/easy LAN machine. It's got a Q6600 and a gtx295; can run just about everything alright, but as I said: it's been acting funky.

Heading off to work; I'll keep it short (and won't be able to respond until after I'm done).
Depending on the total costs of the rest of my rig I can spend over 200 euro's on the case alone. I'd rather not, but a good case is an investment; pick a nice big one and you might be able to reuse it for your next build as well, y'know.

:agree:

I had thh Antec 900 (great case), I now have the Antec 1200, an even better case, but quite big! Fantastic build and great airflow.
I would buy this case again and again 10/10

Did a bit of researching at work, the Coolermaster HAF-X seems like one sexy sexy beast. See how I flutter from random case to random case like a giant noob? Nice.
The Antec 1200 looks damn sweet as well, if a bit too flashy for my taste.
