Gaming Desk

Postby scope1234 on Sun Jan 31, 2010 11:18 pm

Hi all. Right, iv started a joinery course (im realy good with wood *wink*) & theyl give me funding to start a project. As the title states im gona built a Gaming Desk. Iv done a few sketches & made a few 3d renders on true space. Its shaping up very nice at the moment. Im gona actually start building it on monday. so when its started il but a few picys on. Its gona be as small as poss but without compramising structual strenght. Its gona have 2 arm pads that slide out of a kidney shaped desk top, on the left & on the right. But they will move out to about a 1ft. the arms will be able to rotate to suit the gamers own stance as it wer. its gona have on the top of the desk situated in the midle is a space for a platform to be placed so your screen get be higher. instead of having you rig on the floor or on the top of the desk its gona be built in to the actual desk at the back either on the left or the right (its gona have the optional). sort of half in the desk half out. so you can still get to the power buttons & drives. There will be a key board draw that come out in the midle as the arm pads are for a game pad & mouse, wich will come out at a slight decline in angle. Theres gona be holoes cut spaces for cable managment. I wonted it to be small as i have found through a bit of research that alot of people have really big desks & there not really practical. Its only gona be a mk 1 but i want to start my own business building them, again i did a bit of research & most people who want some thing similar are paying office furniture companys £800-£1000, Which i thought was a bit much.

My question to you lot is if you would like one (considering the prototype goes ok) would you buy one. it will come flat packed. im looking at around £80-£150 i know thats a bbig difference but im ot sure of materials. Also im gona try incoparate =EBS='s name into the business if i can. So i leave it at that for now, but if you have any questions dont ask cos i dont know yet lol. Thanks any coments, tips or anything would be a big help.

Thanks all.

Sounds like a plan, I'm definitely intrigued and await some snaps of a prototype 'coz I don't have a particularly useful gaming desk atm.

Looking forward to the results.

Sounds good and i'd be interested if I had the space. Trouble is I dont have a normal setup and your desk wouldn't have room for the two servers, KVM switch and cisco routers.

Two things you may want to consider...
Monitors, some people use multiple monitors! Would you be able to factor that in for your 'monitor platform'
Cases, need to allow for different case sizes and plenty of ventilation. Most computer desks with a cpu slot wouldn't be able to handle Age's monster case
Home sweet home
even better, 3 weeks off work now!

i hadnt thought about the multiple monitors, will look into it. I have the same case as the boss. Thats the base measurment for the housing. Its only going to have a rear panel on it to stop it falling out. Its also going to have a multiple shelf sytem to acomadate all cases, from micro to HAF size lol. Its hard to describe it but ill sho you some photos when i get the basic structure up. This is just mk 1, i will be looking into doing larger & differnt size desks to suit even office neds eventually. I want to go the full wack with this. And its nice to have feedback & help from such lovely people as your selfs.

I find this to be one of the main things with desks. While it sounds awesome you need to think about ventilation. Needs to be able to keep the computer with a good airflow for the fans, and also something that won't blow back the hot air into the intake fans.

Other then that, I would be intrested in getting one, if I can get the money together. first things first though. I needs me a decient chair.

I think that would be the main point of a gaming desk, good ventilation. Currently i have 5 fans and whilst my computer is where it is now it is not getting full cooling.

If you can make it i would be interested =]

tell ya what, how about i incorparate a big fan on the side,as a said its actualliy in the desk at the back left or rightso you only see say the top lets just say 800 (8inch fo rpeople who dont work in mm) then the top of the desk then it disapears through the desk underneath its all open except for the back wich will have a panel to hold it in. Think of it as someone cutting e rectangle at the back of your desk then putting a shelf underneath & then siting ya rig on it. so its all open. Is that a bit clearer.
